Privacy Policy
Effective
The short version
- You can use this site without an account and without telling us who you are.
- We do not use advertising cookies or analytics trackers, and we do not sell personal information.
- If you send a message to a listed company through this site, we pass it to that company and keep a copy.
- We count how often each listing is viewed and contacted. The counts cannot identify you.
- Listed businesses appear here from public business information. Any business can ask us to correct or remove its listing.
1. Who we are
TreeServicesNear.me is an independent directory of tree service companies in Florida, with guides for homeowners. It is run by LS Marine Services, a company registered in Grenada, of Lance aux Épines, St. George, Grenada ("we", "us"). We do not carry out tree work and we are not a party to anything you agree with a listed company.
To reach us about anything in this policy, use the contact form.
2. If you are browsing the site
What we do not do
- We do not set cookies for visitors. The only cookie the site uses is a login cookie for our own administrators.
- We do not run Google Analytics, advertising pixels or any other tracker that follows you across websites.
- We do not build a profile of you.
Server logs
Like every website, our hosting provider's servers record each request: the IP address, the page requested, the time and the browser's description of itself. These logs are used to keep the site running and secure, and the hosting provider deletes them on its own schedule.
Listing activity counts
When a listing is shown, or you tap its phone number, website link or email, we record one count against that listing, with the date and the page you were on. We use these counts to show business owners how their listing is doing.
So that the same visitor is not counted twice in a day, we store a scrambled code made from your IP address, your browser's description and that day's date. The code changes every day and cannot be turned back into an IP address. We do not store the IP address itself with these counts.
Links and content from other companies
Fonts and icons are served from this site, so viewing a page does not send your IP address to a font or icon provider.
Listings link to company websites and to Google for reviews and maps. Once you follow a link, the other site's policy applies. A small number of company profile pages may show a booking form supplied by that company's own software provider; anything typed into it goes to that company, not to us.
Phone calls
Phone numbers on listings connect you directly to the company. Some listings may show a forwarding number. Calls to a forwarding number go to the company, and the phone provider records the calling number, the time and the length of the call so that calls can be counted. We do not record what is said.
3. If you send a message
Enquiries to a listed company
Some listings have an enquiry form. If you use it, we collect your name, your email address, your phone number if you give one, the service you are asking about and your message. We email these to the company you chose, so it can reply to you directly, and we keep a copy. From then on, the company's handling of your details is its own responsibility. We do not send your enquiry to any other company.
To limit spam, we also store the same kind of daily scrambled code described above with each enquiry.
Messages to us
If you use the contact form, we collect your name, email address, phone number if you give one, and your message, and we use them to reply.
4. If you own or work for a listed business
Where listings come from
Listings are created from public business information: the business name, address, phone number, website, opening hours, business email address where one is published, and the business's rating and review count on Google. We refresh some of this from Google from time to time. Most of this is information about a business, not a person, but for a sole trader the two can overlap.
Correcting or removing a listing
Any business can ask us to correct its listing or take it down, whether or not it has claimed it. Use the contact form and tell us which listing. We act on these requests as soon as we reasonably can.
Claiming and managing a listing
- Claiming. We collect your name and email address and send a confirmation link. We may check that the email address belongs to the business before approving the claim.
- Your private edit link. We store only a scrambled version of the link, not the link itself. Anyone with the link can edit the listing, so keep it to yourself.
- Edits and photos. What you add to your listing is published. We keep a log of changes so that mistakes and misuse can be undone.
- Listing requests. If you apply to be listed, we collect your name, business name, phone number, email address, website and service area.
- Featured for a link. If you take a Featured spot in return for a link from your website, we visit the page you gave us about once a month to check the link is still there. We look only at that page.
- Featured listings. We record which listing is Featured, in which town and until when. Payment is taken by PayPal. We receive confirmation of the payment, with the payer's name and email address, but never your card or bank details.
Emails we send to businesses
We send emails that a listing needs in order to work: claim confirmations, enquiries from customers, and reminders before a Featured listing ends. We may also email a listed business at its published business address about its listing, for example to say that it exists and can be claimed. Every such email says how to stop further ones, and we honour those requests. We send one such email and at most one reminder.
We keep a record of each email we send and whether it was delivered. We also note replies and undelivered-mail notices, so that we stop writing to anyone who has answered or whose address no longer works. When someone asks us to stop, their address goes on a do-not-email list.
5. Who sees your information
- The company you contact. An enquiry goes to the company you sent it to.
- Our service providers. The companies that host this site and deliver our email process data on our behalf. PayPal processes payments for Featured listings.
- The law. We will disclose information when the law requires it, or to protect the site and its users from fraud or abuse.
- A new owner. If the site is sold or merged, its records would pass to the new owner under this policy.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.
6. How long we keep things
| Information | Kept for |
|---|---|
| Enquiries sent to companies | Up to 24 months, then deleted |
| Messages sent to us | Up to 24 months, then deleted |
| Listing activity counts | Up to 24 months, then deleted |

| Claim records | While the claim stands. Claims that did not go ahead: up to 24 months |
| Listing content and the log of edits | While the listing is live |
| Record of emails sent to businesses | Up to 24 months, then deleted |
| Do-not-email list | Kept permanently, so that address is never emailed again |
| Payment records | As long as tax and accounting rules require |
You can ask us to delete your information sooner. See your choices below.
7. Security
The site is served over an encrypted connection, edit links are stored in scrambled form, and access to the records is limited to the people who run the site. No website can promise perfect security. Please do not put sensitive information, such as payment details or identity documents, into any form on this site.
8. Your choices
Whoever you are and wherever you live, you can ask us to:
- tell you what personal information we hold about you;
- correct it;
- delete it;
- stop emailing you.
Use the contact form. We may need to confirm who you are before acting, and we will reply within 30 days. We will not treat you differently for making a request. Some laws give residents of particular places further rights; if you believe one applies to you, tell us and we will honour it.
Because we do not track visitors across websites, the site behaves the same whether or not your browser sends a "Do Not Track" or Global Privacy Control signal.
9. Children
This site is for adults arranging work on their property. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
10. Where information is processed
The site is intended for people in Florida and the rest of the United States. Our hosting and email providers may store data on servers in other countries, including the United Kingdom.
11. Changes to this policy
If we change how the site handles information, we will update this page and its effective date before the change takes effect. If a change materially affects businesses with a claimed or Featured listing, we will also email them.
12. Contact
Questions and requests: use the contact form. See also our Terms of Service and how the directory works.
